"A Publication of the Puyallup Jaycees" December 2005 ________________________________________ Editor’s note: President Jeff’s article was written before his new daughter was born. There's something in the air. School is long back in session now, holidays are approaching, there's that Fall crispness that is unmistakable when you set foot outdoors. Is it magic? Excitement? Anticipation? As many of you know, me wife Valerie is about to have a baby as I am writing this. Any time. I mean ANY time; hopefully I'll be able to finish this article first. It's been a long nine months, new at first, sometimes hard, probably a lot of ups and downs and highs and lows that I'm not even aware of. But it's been nine months, and she's a veteran now. She's wearing it well. It's part of her. But not for long. We're ready. We've put in the time. We know something's about to happen, it's inevitable. It'll happen anytime now. All the work, all the pain, all the preparation, is going to turn into something incredible, something amazing. Well, it's going to turn into life. In this case, Audrey Elizabeth Tarbutton. (She should be born by the time you're reading this). Now Jaycees can be a big part of your life too. If you survived October's growth week, then you are well aware of this. But of course family is the most important, and rightfully so. It's nice that we can do a lot of Jaycee things with our families. But even still, even though they may not be as miraculous as a newborn, there are things we can do that may be little miracles in themselves. Maybe you'll never know it, but maybe that kind word you shared with a stranger at a project, or the smile you shared with a child, or that pat on the back you gave to a fellow Jaycee came just in time for someone who needed that word, or that smile, or that pat. Perhaps it was at a meeting, where you felt brave enough to take a position, or chair a project, or even speak in public. Perhaps doing something you never thought you'd do is a little miracle in itself. The wheel has just started turning. There will be more work, more preparation, more pain. We have a lot more to do before we sign off on 2005 and go into 2006 with our bags packed, heads held high, full steam ahead. The air will get crisper, the falling leaves will all disappear, and fight songs will turn into Holiday carols. It's like something great is about to happen. Maybe it's magic, or excitement, or anticipation. But I know I feel something in the air... ~ Jeff Tarbutton, Your Proud President In This Issue: • Providing a Holiday Dinner… • Think Globally, Act locally • This and That • Up close and Personal • Are you a Good Communicator? Holiday Dinner The Young Generation Club of Auburn will be celebrating their annual Christmas Dinner on December 19, 2005. This is a group of mentally and physically challenged individuals full of life and energy that we as Jaycees have had the privilege to work with four times a year for more than 20 years! Our role as volunteers is to get together and prepare turkeys, potatoes, and vegetables for everyone and then serve it to this fabulous group of folks. We need people as early as 4:30 p.m. to come out and get dinner started. We’ll have turkeys to carve, potatoes and vegetables to make, and rolls to cut and butter. Our goal is to be ready to serve dinner by 6:30 p.m. We need at least 5 people on the line serving the meals with 1-2 as backups. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Jessica Hatley at 253-861-1356 or 253-883-5064 or you can email her at puyallupmdvp@yahoo.com. Lots of adventure and excitement throughout the movie. Brittany and I enjoyed every minute of it. It caught your attention from the very beginning. It even made us jump a few times.
